What Can I Expect at My Vestibular Assessment?
A vestibular assessment involves checking all parts of the ears and auditory system. These appointments are offered at our newest location, Colwood Hearing and Balance with Dr. Brittani Trapp.
The appointment begins with a consultation. Your audiologist will inquire about your symptoms, and gather information relative to your hearing, balance, dizziness, general health, and more. During this consultation you can address any questions or concerns you may have.
The second portion of your appointment will be a hearing test. Click here to read more .
The third portion of the appointment will be the vestibular testing. A majority of the testing is completed with a videonystagmography test. You lay down wearing goggles fitted with infrared cameras that record your eye movements. Your audiologist will move your head into different positions while you focus and keep your eyes in a certain spot. This test will help in diagnosing the cause of your balance and dizziness problems.
In some cases, your audiologist will perform a repositioning maneuver during the assessment. In other cases, we provide a customized treatment plan with exercises to practice between follow up appointments.
The final portion of your appointment will be going over the results, recommended medical treatment if needed, and getting a personalized treatment plan.
