NHL Breaks Ground with First-Ever ASL Broadcast for the Stanley Cup Final

At Broadmead Hearing Clinic’s, we believe in celebrating milestones that support inclusivity and accessibility—especially when they align with our mission to empower individuals with hearing loss. That’s why we’re excited to spotlight a historic moment in sports broadcasting: for the first time ever, the NHL will offer an American Sign Language (ASL) broadcast of the 2025 Stanley Cup Final.

Making Hockey More Inclusive

The NHL, in partnership with P-X-P (a media platform focused on elevating disabled voices), is launching this ASL broadcast to ensure that Deaf and hard-of-hearing fans can fully enjoy the thrill and emotion of one of hockey’s biggest events. The dedicated broadcast will feature Deaf broadcasters using ASL to provide commentary, game updates, and player insights—offering a richer and more engaging experience for fans who communicate visually.

Why This Matters

According to the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association, over 4 million Canadians live with some degree of hearing loss. Historically, sports broadcasts have been heavily reliant on audio commentary, making it harder for Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals to feel included in the experience. This initiative by the NHL is a big step toward creating a more equitable fan experience for all.

At Broadmead Hearing, we know that access—whether through advanced hearing technology or inclusive media—is essential to living a connected, fulfilling life. We applaud the NHL for leading by example and showing that accessibility can and should be a priority in all spaces, including entertainment and sports.

The Bigger Picture

As awareness around hearing accessibility grows, we’re seeing more organizations prioritize inclusion—whether it’s through captioning, interpreter services, or accessible venues. This ASL broadcast signals progress, and we’re hopeful it will inspire more leagues and media platforms to follow suit.

If you or a loved one are experiencing hearing challenges, we’re here to help. Our team is ready to support you on your hearing health journey.
