Oticon

Oticon was founded in 1904 by Hans Demant, whose wife was hard of hearing.   As a result Hans began importing and distributing hearing aids in Denmark.              In 1940, his son, William, manufactured the first Danish hearing device, and in 1946 partnered with American hearing aid producer, Charles Lehman, to found Oticon corporation with headquarters in Copenhagen.

Oticon is one of the leading hearing aid manufacturers, with innovative technologies for wireless connectivity and binaural coordination. Oticon is one of the manufacturers of bone-anchored hearing aids.  Oticon’s philosophy is “to empower people to communicate freely, interact naturally and participate actively.”

Oticon Intent Hearing Aids

On March 25th, 2024, Oticon launched it’s newest hearing aid Oticon Intent.

The world’s first 4D Sensor technology incorporates information from head and body movement, conversation activity and the acoustic environment to support effective communication in any situation.

When Compared to Oticon Real, Intent delivers;

  • 35% more access to speech cues
  • Up to 10% better sound quality
  • Up to 13% more nuance
  • Up to 10% higher listening comfort

Oticon Real Hearing Aids

Oticon’s previous generation, the Real was launched in February 2023.

The Oticon Real is an evolution of Oticon’s well-loved More hearing aid platform, expanding upon their BrainHearing philosophy. Oticon has always taken a different path to support the brain in how it makes sense of sound. Rather than focusing on sound or the ears, they think brain first.

With new innovative technology designed to handle the real sounds of life, Oticon Real is powered by Polaris R™ and RealSound Technology™. It builds on the technology in Oticon More™ by giving patients access to all relevant sounds, in balance, with exceptional detail and clarity. Oticon Real also includes new technologies that balance sudden disruptive sounds and clean up wind and handling noise, so wearers can be comfortable and stay sharp in the real world.

Oticon Real hearing aids preserve the full sound scene rather than suppressing it, which has traditionally been how hearing aids manage noisy listening environments. With a full sound scene, the brain receives more accurate input, allowing for more clarity and contrast. These improvements allow Oticon  hearing aids to deliver 30% more sound to the brain and are 60% clearer (compared to Oticon OpnS hearing aids), freeing up brain resources for remembering, responding, and engaging.

The Oticon Real continues to utilize the great Deep Neural Network (DNN) we saw in the Oticon More. A DNN a type of artificial intelligence that mimics how our brains work. The hearing aids were trained with 12 million sound scenes, allowing them to accurately identify the characteristics of speech and tell speech apart from other types of sound, such as noise or music. It is an intelligent feature that outperforms man-made algorithms. A DNN enables the sounds of the world to be handled precisely and automatically. This optimizes the way Oticon Real makes sounds more distinct, working seamlessly across varying listening environments. With this integrated intelligence, Oticon Real has learned to recognize all types of sounds, their details, and how they should ideally sound – all to optimally support the brain.

Did you know that Oticon hearing aids analyze your sound environment 500 times a second? This allows for near-instantaneous changes in how the hearing aid is amplifying speech and reducing background noise.
