Every once in a while we are faced with challenges that keep things interesting around here. I wanted to share a success story we had with Mrs. Gunderson. She is 92 years old and has significant bilateral hearing loss. She went to Costco initially and their Hearing Instrument Practitioner referred her to see us as Audiologists because they felt her situation was too complicated for their expertise.
She has ear canals that are very small and also has severe intolerance to sound. Both of these issues made amplifying her hearing challenging, not to mention the limited dexterity she presented. She started the process with us in February and today she left the office saying “I can’t imagine ever parting with these”. We were able to work together to get the settings strong enough so she could hear but not too overwhelming for her sensitive ears as well as finding something that would fit into her ears.
She went on to describe how much more she is getting from church and interactions with her friends and family. She is an amazing woman who I could tell has such great perseverance that her willingness to work on it made the fitting a success.
