We are very excited to introduce a brand-new technology that will greatly improve listening in background noise for hearing aid users. Roger technology was recently released by the hearing aid manufacturer Phonak. It consists of a series of wireless accessories that are compatible with most hearing aids, including older models, as well as those made by other hearing aid manufacturers.
How does it work? It bridges the gap between you and your conversation partner(s) by wirelessly transmitting the speaker’s voice directly to the hearing aids of the listener. This direct transmission allows the device to dramatically reduce background noise, while enhancing the signal from the speaker’s voice. Roger systems feature an advanced wireless microphone, which is used by the speaker, and tiny discrete receivers that click directly onto your existing hearing aids or your remote control. It is arguably, the most sophisticated and automatic remote microphone system available for hearing aid users. Roger systems work best for those who still struggle with understanding speech in challenging listening situations, even when wearing their hearing aids (e.g. restaurants, dining halls, public spaces, and even in the car).
Roger systems are very easy to use, but require a trained hearing professional to set them up for you and connect them to your hearing aids. As this technology is not yet widely available, we are very excited to have been designated a “Roger Centre,” which allows our audiologists to have access to this technology for our current and future clients.
